Alexander Nübel became Bayern Munich’s first signing of the 2020/21 season but had to wait the longest for his new shirt number. While both Tanguy Nianzo (number 23) and Leroy Sané (number 10) have already gotten their new numbers, Nübel’s has just become official.
A signing that stirred controversy and a brief rumor mill surrounding Manuel Neuer, Nübel will obviously not take Neuer’s number 1 jersey or, apparently Sven Ulreich’s number 2, but will instead continue with the number he wore at Schalke 04, 35.
That in turn means that Joshua Zirkzee has to switch numbers, as he previously wore the number 35 on his back. Zirzkee will now put on the iconic jersey number 14 for Die Roten, last worn by Ivan Perisic. The youngster, who is expected to play a more important role this season, has been handed the number previously worn by Bayern players such as Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Xabi Alonso, Claudio Pizarro, and briefly Hans-Dieter Flick.
Lastly, Adrian Fein, who has returned from his loan spell with HSV, will wear the number 30.
