Per a new report from Bild, former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac sent text messages to Hansi Flick and a number of players after their Champions League final win over Paris Saint-Germain in Lisbon. Before parting ways with Bayern back in November, Kovac did secure the domestic double in the 2018/2019 season, but he’s since moved on to manage Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

The Croatian said that his former employer was more than deserving of clinching the Champions League title having played so well throughout the whole tournament: “I sent him and some of the players a text message and congratulated them, because they deserved the title. They played a really fantastic Champions League season, dominated the games, and were the best team! I was certain for 90 minutes that only Bayern could be the winner.”

Of course, when Kovac was still manager of Bayern, they started off with a perfect win in the Champions League, having won their first three group stage matches against Red Star Belgrade, Tottenham, and Olympiacos. However, discontent in the dressing room combined with lackluster results in the Bundesliga spelled the end of Kovac’s reign as Bayern manager. Under Hansi Flick, they played an entirely revamped brand of football en route to another historic treble.
