There were fears about the extent of the injury that FC Bayern Munich Frauen star Jovana Damnjanović picked up in the Champions League quarterfinal match against Olympique Lyonnais. It turns out that the worst of those fears has been confirmed: Damnjanović has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee.
Bayern Munich confirmed the news via a release on its club website.
“I’m so sorry for Jovi, who lives FC Bayern Munich with every fiber,” said Bianca Rech, sporting director for the FC Bayern Munich Frauen. “She has made incredible progress in the past few months and is an important figure on and off the pitch. We will miss her very much for the next few months. Anyone who knows Jovi knows that she will do everything for her comeback and we will support her 100 percent in this way.”
Obviously, the news is a dramatic blow for the squad, which will again have high hopes to challenge for a Women’s Bundesliga title this season.
Gute Besserung, Jovana!
