Jerome Boateng went down with a non-contact leg or groin injury in the 23’ minute of the Champions League final against Paris Saint-German. Boateng raced back with the rest of Bayern’s defenders to try to stop a dangerous break. Fortunately for Bayern, Angel Di María fired the concluding shot over the bar.

Boateng was left lying on the pitch after the play and was immediately treated by Bayern’s team doctors. They helped the defender limp off the pitch. It was not immediately clear where exactly Boateng hurt himself. A leg or groin injury seems likely.

Boateng was replaced right away by center-back Niklas Süle. Thanks paradoxically to the Coronavirus, which caused the season to be suspended for months, Süle was able to complete rehabilitation for the ACL injury that sidelined him nearly all year. Beyond Süle, Bayern has Spanish center-back Lucas Hernandez on the bench.

We will give an update on Baoteng’s status when we learn more.
