When it was announced who Bayern Munich would be playing in the First Round of the DFB Pokal, the ledger only listed “the cup winners from the Mittelrhein Football Association cup winners”. With the Semifinals and Final left to play, the Bavarians weren’t exactly sure who they would play, but now they know they’ll be heading to North-Rhine Westphalia to take on FC Düren.
The fifth division side beat Viktoria Arnoldsweiler in the Semifinals and Alemannia Aachen in the Final and will appear in the DFB Pokal for the first time. The club was founded in 2017 following the merger of two smaller clubs.
At this time, it’s expected that the match will take place in Düren as per custom of the lower division teams hosting the First Round; however, FC Düren is considering offering Bayern a swap of hosting rights.
The First Round matches will be played September 11-14, 2020.
