Bayern Munich have a monumental challenge ahead of them in the Quarterfinals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Olympique Lyon are one of the greatest teams that sports (not just women’s soccer or women’s sports, but all of sports) has ever seen. If Bayern are going to take all three points in this one, they’ll have to earn every thing they get.
Jens Scheuer has a lot of new options available to him in this one. UEFA has allowed clubs to register up to six new players for these final three rounds of the UWCL due to the way transfers are structured in the women’s game. So, despite the fact that the Frauen have lost Kathrin Hendrich (Wolfsburg) and Melanie Leupolz (Chelsea), the club has added even more talent with Viviane Asseyi (Bordeaux), Klara Bühl (Freiburg), Hanna Glas (PSG), Marina Hegering (Essen), Lea Schüller (Essen), and Sarah Zadrazil (Turbine Potsdam).
At this point, it’s really hard to determine exactly what kind of lineup that Scheuer plans to deploy against Lyon, but for whoever he chooses, they’re in for a workout. Lyon have now won the Champions League four times in a row and Division 1 Feminine FOURTEEN times in a row. On paper, they’re unbeatable, but it’s a good thing they don’t play on paper.
The other Quarterfinal match features Arsenal taking on France’s second best club, Paris Saint-Germain. Same as yesterday, if there are YouTube embeds available for today’s games, they will be put in here.
It’s Bayern time.
