Gia Corley, currently playing for the FCB Frauen, will be awarded the Fritz Walter Silver Medal this year for her contribution to winning the 2nd Women’s Bundesliga. In addition to her exploits domestically, the 18-year-old contributed 2 goals in 3 appearances with the German national team at the U-19 level in 2020 and was a key member of the U-17 side that won the UEFA Women’s Championship. This is a double honor for Gia, as she won won the Fritz Walter Medal in bronze last season.

In addition to Gia’s silver, Torben Rhein will also be taking home a Fritz Walter Medal in silver. The 17-year-old, currently playing for Bayern Munich’s U-19 side, scored 4 goals and made 6 assists in 14 matches for the U-19s. He not only scored 3 goals in 3 matches for Germany’s U-17 side in the UEFA U-17 Championship, but he also serves as team captain. This past season also saw Torben make his professional debut for FCBII in a match against Magdeburg. Bayern obviously have big plans for him with the way he’s been aggressively promoted through the ranks.

Winners of the Fritz Walter Medal regularly go on to have distinguished professional careers. Recent awardees include Bayern’s Klara Bühl (2019, gold) and Nicolas Kühn (2019, gold), and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz (2018, gold).
