It really pays to talk to some of the best soccer writers in the world. I admittedly don’t know much about French soccer -apart from some poor pronunciations- so I couldn’t tell you much about who Bayern Munich is facing this Wednesday.

And so, I sought out Julien Laurens, one of the best French soccer journalists out there. The more I sat here and listened to him tell me about what this Olympique Lyon team has been through, the more I was astounded that this team was able to reach this stage in the first place.

I think for all Bayern fans out there, this is the best quick and informative guide to Lyon we can get.

So, here is what you’ll find in this episode:

On this episode, ahead of the UCL semifinals, we take a look at Olympique Lyon who finished 7th in Ligue 1 with an 11-7-10 record and 40 points from 28 games. Today, Jake is joined by French soccer journalist Julien Laurens to discuss this team’s ability to overcome the odds. From injuries, to transfers, to fighting between the fans and managers, Lyon is a team that has managed to simultaneously underperform in France while outshining their opponents in the Champions League. The two discuss the players and their system, give predictions, talk about the upcoming OL-Bayern match in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, and more.
