In the biggest draw of the Quarterfinals, Bayern Munich wasted no time putting the sword to Barcelona earning their spot in the UEFA Champions League Semifinals. The Bavarians will wait until Saturday to learn their opponents when Manchester City face Lyon.
Bayern entered the summer reboot with high expectations, and they have delivered. With a 4-1 (7-1 aggregate) win over Chelsea and a 8-2 win over Barcelona, Hansi Flick’s team will enter the Semifinals against either potential opponent with confidence that this run can and will continue.
Bayern’s spectacular first half against Barcelona was record-breaking as the Bavarians became the first club in European Cup history to score four goals in the first half against the Catalans.
We knew coming into the season that this Bayern team had the potential to be special, but the early season stutter diminished that talk for a while. However, since Flick took over from Niko Kovac, the team has found the next gear, and appear to be on a mission to lift the Champions League trophy once again.
