While FC Bayern Munich’s team and staff were in Lisbon preparing to face FC Barcelona in the Champions League, the board held a press conference in Munich, announcing plans for a massive new project in Munich’s downtown district. What Bild is calling a “palace” will include a three-level team store, two restaurants, and a hotel! The new fan experience, called FC Bayern Welt or FC Bayern World, will be located directly next to Munich’s famous Frauenkirche and is set to open in December of this year.

The flagship store will be a giant team store and will be located in the basement, the ground floor, and the second floor. Altogether the team store will cover more than a staggering 13,000 square feet.

There will be two restaurants — one on the ground floor and one on the second floor. One will serve traditional Bavarian cuisine, while the other will have offer an international menu.

The hotel will go from the ground level to the sixth floor. There will be 30 rooms including a penthouse suite with a stunning view of the Frauenkirche. Room pricing will start at under €200 per night. As for the room decorations, there will be a bit of Bayern flair, but the sheets will remain neutral. According to Jörg Wacker, Head of Internationalization and Strategy at FC Bayern, “The point is to appeal to everyone.”

Another advantage is the proximity of the hotel to Munich’s city hall. Bayern’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, “Our second living room, the balcony [of city hall], is practically within walking distance.” He went on to say that, “this is the new benchmark in European football. I don’t know anything comparable.”
