Not for the first time, Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt has revisited his grievances with Pep Guardiola, who managed Bayern Munich from 2013 to 2016, yet again. In an interview with BR24 (via Goal), Muller-Wohlfahrt described Guardiola’s constant interference in medical decisions at FC Bayern.
A veteran doctor who had been at the club for over 35 years when Guardiola was appointed head coach, Müller-Wohlfahrt, “It was just that I couldn’t put up with the fact that a young trainer — who was very successful and who is probably one of the really, really big ones — interfered in medical matters and knew everything better than I did.”
Of course, once Jupp Heynckes was brought back following the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti in 2017, Müller-Wohlfahrt returned as head team doctor. He ended his 40-year tenure at FC Bayern at the end of June.
While there was bad blood between Müller-Wohlfahrt and Guardiola for a while, the long-time Bayern doctor revealed that the two have since buried the hatchet: “We met and talked to each other, and then it’s over,” he said. “We appreciate each other and he appreciates my work above all. He never questioned that.”
