The future of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara is on the minds of quite a few people these days. It is not just coach Hansi Flick, CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and representatives from rumored destination Liverpool, however, who are keeping close tabs on the 29-year-old Spaniard.
Per the Flex Master himself, Sport Bild chief Christian Falk, Manchester United has joined the fray in hopes of convincing Thiago to continue his career in a non-Jürgen Klopp led environment.
Liverpool is a big topic. There are also rumors about @ManUtd— Christian Falk (@cfbayern) July 4, 2020
The Express jumped in to note that Manchester United is already working on the financial logistics of bolstering its roster:
(Manchester United executive vice-chairman) Ed Woodward has taken out a loan of £140 million to help United land their top targets. This is not the first time that United have been linked with a move for Thiago.
Finally, the Evening Standard reported that Bayern Munich might be seeking roughly €35 million in exchange for Thiago.
Regardless, Manchester United currently sits in fifth place of the Premier League table, just two points behind fourth-place Chelsea and an automatic berth into the Champions League. Even if the Red Devils fail to clinch a Champions League spot during league play, Manchester United is still alive and competing in the Europa League.
The Red Devils are slated to take on Austrian side Linzer Athletik-Sport-Klub (LASK) on August 5th in a Europa League playoff match, where the English club already holds a 5-0 advantage from a first-leg victory.
Despite repeated pleas from Flick for the midfielder to remain in Bavaria, it seems like the Spaniard is seriously considering taking his talents elsewhere this summer. Despite this latest interest from Manchester United, Liverpool still appears to be the front-runner to land the star midfielder.
