Hansi Flick made no secret of his hope that both Thiago Alcantara and David Alaba stay at Bayern Munich after winning the DFB-Pokal against Bayer Leverkusen last night. Neither player has signed a contract extension, and even Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said that Thiago “wants to try something new.”
Flick said after the game, “I will certainly use every means at my disposal so that we can keep two such quality players in our ranks. I hope that we can keep both these quality players, even if I know that it’s not so simple with Thiago.”
Thiago has been heavily linked to Liverpool FC, but Flick says he’s staying optimistic. “It’s just that I always have hope. I always see things very positively,” he said.
As for Alaba, Flick argues he could set a striking example by playing his entire career at Bayern. “You can also end your career at a club where you were trained,” he said. “That does not happen all too often today. He could lead the way.”
“I hope we can convince him to sign with Bayern,” Flick said. “In the end, he’s a very important player for us, the heart. He’s not only an absolutely world-class player, but also important off the pitch.”
