Jerome Boateng left the DFB-Pokal final with a leg injury this evening in the 69th minute. The veteran center-back had played an outstanding game anchoring Bayern Munich’s defense alongside David Alaba.
Boateng won 3 clearances, 1 blocked shot, 2 interceptions, 2 tackles, and won 3 out of 4 duels. He appeared to injure himself while launching into the path of a very dangerous pass across the face of goal by Kai Havertz intended for Leon Bailey, sending it arching over the crossbar.

He signaled to the bench shortly thereafter that he needed to be replaced. Lucas Hernandez duly came on as Alaba shifted to the right center-back position.
Boateng appears to have injured himself below his left knee. He was seen receiving treatment there on the sidelines. It is anyone’s guess what the injury could be, but it does not appear to be extremely serious. Boateng left the pitch under his own power.
Bayern will not have another competitive game until the Champions League resumes in August. By coincidence, Niklas Süle was on the squad today for the first time since tearing his ACL. It was in his position that Boateng has played for most of this season.
Gute Besserung, Jerome!
