Miroslav Klose officially completed his first training session as assistant coach of Bayern Munich alongside Hansi Flick earlier today. It was announced in May that he would assume the assistant coach’s role after his tenure coaching the U-17’s, but this is the first time he’s led a session alongside Flick.

Per FCBayern.com, Klose did not shy away from getting fully involved during the session. After some stretching and stabilization exercises, he worked with the squad on tactical movements and run-of-play patterns. He was constantly motivating the players and kept giving them tips and pointers as he prodded them on.

Speaking to Bayern’s website, Klose said was eager to get back on pitch and start conversing with the players: “I couldn’t wait to get back out onto the pitch as quickly as possible. I told the team that I’m a very open, communicative coach, and that I want to be able to approach the players. It is incredibly exciting and I’m very happy to be part of it. We are a good team and everyone can learn from one another.”

Klose also stayed after the main session was complete along with fitness coach Dr. Holger Broich to do some individual training with Robert Lewandowski. They worked on different types of finishing techniques. A striker and prolific goal scorer himself during his playing days, Klose said, “I think my focus will be a bit on the strikers. But we’ll determine that soon together with Hansi Flick.”
