Bayern Munich II headed into Wednesday’s match against Duisburg having received the bad news that Otschi Wriedt and Derrick Köhn would no longer take part in the 3.Liga season with the Bavarians. Fighting through the shock, however, Bayern II rescued a point at the end to hold on to first place in the 3.Liga!

There was some good news for Bayern II as Lukas Mai returned to the starting lineup after a month on the sideline due to an injury. He slotted right in at centerback for Chris Richards who was suspended due to yellow card accumulation.

The match started strong with both goalkeepers stepping up big to keep the match scoreless. But, disaster struck for Bayern II in the 30th minute. After a turnover in midfield, Duisburg quickly marched the ball up the field thanks to some terrible defense from Bayern II, and Vincent Vermeij scored to put Duisburg up 1-0. That scoreline would hold up for the remainder of the first half.

At the hour mark, Angelo Stiller lofted a perfect pass behind the Duisburg defense, and Timo Kern brought the ball down with a perfect chest trap and quickly finished to level the score for Bayern II.

It looked like Duisburg was going to take all three points when Lukas Daschner collected a ball bouncing around in the penalty area and beat Hofmann in the 83rd minute. However, with time ticking away, Leon Dajaku scored a screamer from outside the box to equalize for Bayern II and rescue a point.

The last second point means that Bayern II stay in first place in the 3.Liga table, one point ahead of second place Eintracht Braunschweig and two points ahead of Würzburger Kickers. On Saturday, Bayern II will play FC Kaiserslautern, and the young Bavarians hold their fate in their hands. If they beat FCK, Bayern II will be the champions of the 3.Liga.
