Back in January, Bayern Munich announced that Otschi Wriedt and Derrick Köhn would be leaving the club and joining Willem II in the Dutch Eredivisie. The two players had been stalwarts with Bayern II, and both more than earned their opportunities in a first division team. Their Bayern contracts would expire on June 30, and their Willem II contracts begin on July 1.
When the COVID-19 delays happened, the 3.Liga season was extended beyond the June 30, and that left Bayern II in a bind. The Bavarians would need to negotiate with Willem II to allow both Wriedt and Köhn to remain for the final league matches for Bayern II.
Unfortunately for Bayern II and the two players, those discussions weren’t fruitful. At the end of the day, Willem II was just too concerned about the injury potential to their two future players to risk it, according to Bayern Campus Manager Jochen Sauer.
Hopefully, we’ll get to see Wriedt and Köhn doing well for Willem II next season and get their opportunities in the Europa League Qualifying!
