Part of Bayern Munich’s strategy involving the club’s youth players revolves around getting the players, when ready, loans at Bundesliga or 2.Bundesliga clubs. This allows them to continue their development at a higher level than on offer with Bayern II in the 3.Liga. With a handful of players ready to take that next step now, Bayern is working this summer to find the appropriate landing spots for them.
For Oliver Batista Meier, however, Hansi Flick has reportedly expressed to the club that he wants to keep the winger in Munich for next season. According to Kicker, Flick is planning for next season with Meier in mind for the first team. This comes following an earlier report that Hoffenheim was interested in bringing Meier into the club.
Meier spent the majority of last season splitting time between Bayern II and the club’s U-19 team. One would suspect that Meier will be shuttling between the first team and Bayern II for this upcoming season.
With the addition of Leroy Sane, Meier will find himself as, at best, the fourth winger in the squad, so the opportunity to get minutes with Bayern II while training with the first team will be important for his continued development.
