What happens when David Alaba leaves?

David Alaba one of the last players from our youth system to make it to the first team is reportedly looking to bid a farewell to the Bayern Red and with each day he does not put pen to paper on a new deal it seems more likely that he will leave.

Alaba this season:

The start of this season was pretty tumultuous for Bayern we lost the Super Cup to arch rivals Dortmund and then smashed Tottenham in their own stadium 7-2 only to end up 7th in the Bundesliga table a string of injury issues led both of our starting CBs out of the game and when we seem to be burning down thanks to our defense Alaba and Phonzie became to our aid. Phonzie has been phenomenal at LB he has been our Lewandowski in defense to match him Alaba became the Muller of our defense. Unlike his predecessor Hummels Alaba is not a monster in defensive attributes but his positioning and distribution made up for his good but not excellent defensive prowess. Game after game he held his fort against few of the best offences Europe(Chelsea) and Bundesliga(Dortmund, Leipzig, Gladbach) threw on him and won our hearts but as always everything good must came to an end and it looks likely that Alaba's time at Bayern is nearing its end.

What happens next?

Under Hansi Flick Bayern has so far played a high defensive line and relied on (arguably) both the CBs to distribute the ball forward but if Alaba leaves his place will be taken by Lucas Hernandez a primary defender who is excellent in pure defending, has speed and decent dribbling skills but lacks Alaba's distribution. At the start Lucas can be expected to partner Boa in defense as Sule will most probably take time to be reintroduced in the team after his injury and when he does it most probably will be Lucas-Sule partnership at the back. Both the players are great as pure defenders but poor in distribution so Flick will likely rely more on his midfielders in Kimmich, Leon and Muller to create along with the pacy duo of Sane-gnabs/coman. We may also see KImmich dropping deep along side Lucas and Sule to create a 3 man defense against teams which might be difficult to break from the midfield to provide long balls and distribute the ball like Alaba did. There is also a chance of Lucas hone his distribution skills under Flick.

But what shall happen can only be guessed at this point of time and lets hope we win the CL this season.
