Thiago, Corentin Tolisso back in training for Bayern Munich

This is a step in the right direction for the pair of midfielders making their way back from injuries.

Thiago Alcantara and Corentin Tolisso returned to training for Bayern Munich today. Both midfielders only partially completed the team training session, but it was still a step in the right direction for the pair of midfielders as Bayern prepares for the DFB-Pokal final against Bayer Leverkusen this weekend. Thiago is recovering from a groin problem that required an operation to repair and he’s only featured twice for Bayern since the Bundesliga has resumes; once in the league against Leverkusen and once in the Pokal against Eintracht Frankfurt. Tolisso is recovering from an ankle problem himself that required surgery. He hasn’t made an appearance for Bayern since late February in the 6-0 league win over Hoffenheim and has struggled for consistent minutes this season.

Both Thiago and Tolisso took part in various stabilization and passing exercises with the rest of the squad at the start of the session and were greeted by applause from their teammates when they made their way onto the pitch at Sabener Strasse. When the team then broke to do various tactics drills, Thiago and Tolisso went off individually to continue their rehabilitation programs with Bayern’s physios and trainers.

At this point, it’s still unclear whether or not the pair will be fully fit and available on time for this weekend’s DFB-Pokal final against Leverkusen, but it will still be vitally important to have them back for the remainder of Bayern’s Champions League campaign in August. Hansi Flick will want to have as much depth as he can heading into the resumption of the competition as his side could very well clinch another historic treble.
