On January 4, 2020, Alexander Nübel agreed to join Bayern Munich on a free transfer at the end of the season. As agreed, Nübel has joined the Bavarians as of today and has passed his obligatory medical examination.

Nübel, who will wear number 35 at Munich, has signed a five-year contract that will expire on June 30, 2025.

Speaking to FCBayern.com, Nübel said that his “first impressions are very, very good. I wanted to take the next step. My goal is to improve steadily and celebrate many successes with FC Bayern.”

Joining Bayern from Schalke 04, making the same move as Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer, Nübel has raised a few question marks with his decision to transfer. Neuer was hesitant in signing his new contract and it remains to be seen how much playing time Nübel will receive in Munich.

Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić is not worried. “We’re glad Alexander is with us now,” he said. “He has decided to join FC Bayern, and we’re certain we’ll enjoy having him as our player. Alexander Nübel is one of the biggest goalkeeping talents, he’ll continue to improve at FC Bayern and make good progress. He’ll get every possible form of support from us.”

Welcome, Alexander!
