Sebastian Hoeness, Otschi Wriedt named coach, player of the season for 3. Liga

This is the icing on the cake for Bayern Munich II for a fantastic season.

With only two matches to play, Bayern Munich II is at the top of the 3. Liga table after an impressive surge in form after the coronavirus pandemic. Sebastian Hoeness has led his side to first place after dwelling in the middle of the table for most of the season before the three-month pause from matches.

Although they still have two important matches left, against MSV Duisburg and then Kaiserslautern, Hoeness has officially been named coach of the season while Otschi Wriedt has been named player of the season. The votes were cast by players and staff members throughout the league, and no one was allowed to vote for members of their own club. Wriedt finished with 42% of the votes ahead of Kaiserslautern’s Florian Pick (36%) and SV Meppen’s Deniz Undav (22%). Hoeness finished with 64% of the vote ahead of Würzburger Kickers’s Michael Schiele (FCBayern.com).

When asked about receiving his honor, Hoeness said the personal achievement was all down to the amazing staff he has working with him.

“I’m obviously proud of this personal distinction, but I’d like to pass the compliment on to my staff and the team,” Hoeness said. “It makes me incredibly happy to work with everyone. Our season goal was to stay up; now we can even achieve the championship on our own strength. That would be a fantastic story even for FC Bayern.”

Wriedt, who could very well finish the 3.Liga season as the top scorer, with 24 goals to his name at the moment, was happy to have received the recognition as well. He said, “That is a great honor for me. I’d like to thank my teammates, the staff, and the entire club. I ope that we now can bring the season to a positive conclusion.”

Both Hoeness and Wriedt will receive their individual trophies on the final matchday of the season (38), against Kaiserslautern.
