With a 3-0 victory over SGS Essen on the final matchday, Bayern Munich secured second place in the Frauen Bundesliga. The win also guarantees that Bayern will play Champions League football next season in the 2020/21 version of the competition.

The match was dominated by Bayern, and Essen were lucky to not find themselves down 3-0 after the first half hour. Finally, the breakthrough came just before the halftime whistle when the Bavarians were awarded a free kick. Lina Magull stepped up and curled the ball into the top corner to give Bayern the 1-0 halftime lead.

Linda Dallmann made it 2-0 in the 72nd minute with a nice finish on a through-ball from Jovana Damnjanovic. Then, in the 75th minute, Damnjanovic converted a penalty after Lineth Beerensteyn was fouled in the box.

Bayern XI: Benkarth - Ilestedt (46. Hendrich), Wenninger, Demann, Simon - Leupolz (87. Boye), Magull - Beerensteyn (87. Rolser), Dallmann, Gwinn (59. Škorvánková) - Damnjanović (76. Islacker)

This was the last match at Bayern for Melanie Leupolz (Chelsea), Mandy Islacker (Koln), and Nicole Rolser (retirement)

Congratulations to Bayern Frauen on the second place finish and qualifying for next season’s Champions League!
