Bayern Munich Frauen have announced the signing of French forward Viviane Asseyi. She's joining Bayern on a free transfer from Bordeaux and signing a two year contract to keep her in Munich through the end of the 2021/22 season.
Asseyi's signing gives Jens Scheuer even more attacking options heading into the new season. Asseyi joins other newcomers like Klara Bühl and Lea Schüller as the club looks to bolster the attack to make a run at Wolfsburg's current reign at the top of the Frauen Bundesliga.
The 26 year old French international led Bordeaux in scoring during her two years at the club and hopes to carry that performance over to Bayern and continue that same progress in Munich.
“What convinced me to come to Munich was the club’s long-term strategy and the honest interst of the athletic officials in me,” Asseyi said. “I decided in favor of FC Bayern because it’s a major European club and I know that I can make even more progress here in every area.”
Bayern sporting director Bianca Rech echoed Asseyi's feeling about the future in Munich that they've mapped out for her: “She is absolutely convinced in our approach, and in Viviane we are getting a top player who will give us much to be happy about.”
With 12 goals to her name in the shortened Division 1 Feminine due to COVID-19, Asseyi showed once again that she's ready for and deserves the opportunity to compete for a club like Bayern in the UEFA Champions League.
Welcome to Munich, Viviane!
