The young Frenchman reportedly wants out after only a year at Bayern, but the Bavarians will not let him go easily.

A new buzz has emerged surrounding Bayern Munich’s young defender Lucas Hernandez: Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly courting the 23-year-old for a summer transfer. According to FootMercato, Hernandez is eager to join Ligue 1 champions PSG, and has possibly already agreed personal terms for the potential move. He was brought to Munich from Atletico Madrid Just last summer for a Bundesliga record €80 million.

Per the report, the World Cup-winning Frenchman has asked the Bayern officials for permission to transfer out. He is also apparently open to a return to La Liga (though few, if any, clubs there will be looking to splash the cash for him).

Hernandez’s agent apparently made the trip to Paris last week to discuss terms with the French giants, although when probed by FootMercato his representatives denied having any contact with the club.

Regardless, Bayern will be keen to hold on to their record signing; sources close to the Bundesliga champions’ top brass said that they will not let Hernandez leave for less than the €80 million for which they purchased him.

Hernandez has not enjoyed the breakout season he may have hoped for upon arriving at the Allianz Arena in July 2019, having made a middling 22 appearances in all competitions amid stretches of injury and inconsistency. His rather rocky start to Bavarian life has stirred up transfer speculation throughout this spring. Manchester City and Inter Milan also emerged as potential suitors in May.

Paris Saint-Germain will likely be on the lookout this summer for a replacement for outgoing veteran centre-back Thiago Silva, whose contract with his longtime club expires at the end of their Champions League campaign in August.

Young PSG defender Tanguy Kouassi is already set to join Bayern on a free transfer this summer. It looks like the French champions will have their work cut out for them to convince Bayern to send Hernandez, who remains a promising young player, the other way.
