Bayern Munich secured a point against soon-to-be-champions Wolfsburg on Sunday in the Frauen Bundesliga. Still, the Bavarians saw their lead over Hoffenheim for the final Champions League place fall to only two points.
The match featured two different milestones for Bayern. This was Lineth Beerensteyn’s 50th Bundesliga appearance for Bayern. For captain Melanie Leupolz, this was her final home match for Bayern before she departs for Chelsea this summer.
“We have won a point and delivered a super game,” head coach Jens Scheuer said. “I am sure that we will also perform like this next week in Essen, and if we play like this, paired with a certain effectiveness, then we will surely get the three points.
Bayern XI: Benkarth - Ilestedt, Wenninger, Demann, Simon - Leupolz, Magull - Beerensteyn, Dallmann, Gwinn (68. Škorvánková) - Damnjanović (79. Islacker)
Hoffenheim beat FFC Frankfurt 4-0 to reduce Bayern’s lead in second place to only two points. Next weekend, Bayern will play SGS Essen while Hoffenheim play Turbine Potsdam. The Bavarians hold their fate in their own hands, and a win guarantees them second place; however, if they only manage a draw, Hoffenheim can win and pip them for the spot thanks to goal difference.
