Bayern Munich weren’t going to gift Wolfsburg their fourth consecutive Frauen Bundesliga championship, and they secured a big 4-0 win against FC Köln. However, for all of their efforts, Wolfsburg also beat Freiburg 2-0 on the day to secure their sixth championship overall.
The Bavarians struck early in this one with Melanie Leupolz finishing a cross from Lina Magull in the 6th minute for the 1-0 lead. Magull wasn’t done there, and the midfielder would go on to assist two more goals in the first half: Jovana Damnjanovic in the 11th minute and Carina Wenninger in the 24th.
Linda Dallmann added Bayern’s fourth goal in the 30th minute to make it 4-0. From there, Bayern put everything on cruise control and eased to their 16th win out of 20 games on the season.
Bayern XI: Benkarth - Hendrich (63. Ilestedt), Wenninger, Demann, Simon (74. Schweers) - Leupolz (63. Škorvánková), Magull (46. Boye) - Dallmann (74. Islacker), Gwinn, Beerensteyn - Damnjanović
If the table holds, this will be the fourth consecutive season that Wolfsburg have won the league with Bayern finishing in second place. In the two season prior to that, the roles were reversed.
Bayern and Wolfsburg will actually face each other on Sunday, June 21 at the Bayern Campus in Munich. With two matches remaining in the Frauen Bundesliga season, Bayern’s lead over Hoffenheim for the second Champions League spot awarded to Germany is only four points.
