Bayern Munich may have only a thin squad to face Mönchengladback on Saturday, but reinforcements are around the corner. Hansi Flick indicated at Friday’s press conference that long-term convalescent Niklas Süle and Philippe Coutinho are close to rejoining team training.
“Niklas Süle and Philippe Coutinho will definitely get a taste of team training next week,” Flick said. The only catch is that they must pass two coronavirus tests. They took the first one on Friday.
“They still need two tests in advance,” Flick said. “Today they took the first one and will take the second one on Monday. If everything is in order, they can perhaps slowly be brought up to speed after the Bremen game (Tuesday, June 16).”
Süle last played on October 19, 2019, when he suffered an ACL tear playing against FC Augsburg. Coutinho had an ankle surgery after playing against Augsburg, on March 8, 2020.
Flick also mentioned Corentin Tolisso, who is recovering from his own ankle injury. “Everything is in the green area with Corentin Tolisso. Yesterday he was in the anti-gravity treadmill,” Flick said.
