It has not been lost on observers that Jerome Boateng was one of the biggest winners of the coaching change that put Hansi Flick in charge of Bayern Munich. Now Bild reports that Boateng might stay yet another year at Bayern Munich after all.
Prior to Niko Kovac’s dismissal and Flick’s confirmation as head coach, Boateng had wanted to leave Bayern for two years, and even Uli Hoeness publicly recommended that he should transfer out in 2019. Now times have changed.
Boateng told Sport Bild, “My contract runs until 2021. Under coach Hansi Flick, I can imagine completing it.”
Boateng had a great season thus far, regular starts and no injuries. Boateng said, “I owe very much to Hansi Flick. If he wasn’t coach, I might not be at FC Bayern anymore.”
Bayern had been seriously interested in RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, who recently signed an extension. In light of Boateng’s revival under Flick, the club is much more relaxed and focusing on signing a right-back rather than a center-back.
