Bayern Munich II continued their superb run in 2020 with another victory. This time, it was a 2-1 win against Ingolstadt. The young Bavarians are now in fourth place in the 3.Liga, and are closer than ever to securing their spot in the division for another season.

Timo Kern opened the scoring for Bayern in the fourth minute, following a terrific run down the right flank by Woo-yeong Jeong. He got to the end line before playing the ball back across the middle where Kern smashed it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Unfortunately for Bayern, Ingolstadt grabbed an equalizer just before halftime. Marcel Gaus poked home a corner kick to send both sides into the break at 1-1.

Ingolstadt kept pushing in the second half, but Ron-Thorben Hoffmann was up for the challenge in goal, keeping the hosts from finding a second goal. Then, in the 89th minute, Otschi Wriedt sent a cross to the back post. Chris Richards outjumped the defenders and headed the ball into the back of the post.

“We didn’t know where we stood. The boys were really eager for the game and simply wanted to enjoy the match per se,” Sebastian Hoeneß said. “In der zweiten Halbzeit hatten wir sicherlich auch Glück, da hat uns Ron-Thorben Hoffmann im Tor mehrmals geholfen.“

It’ll be a quick turnaround for Bayern II. On Wednesday June 3, Preußen Münster will visit Grünwalder Stadion. It’s another huge opportunity for Bayern II to gain points as Münster is down in the relegation zone.
