Per a report from Bild (behind the Bild+ paywall), there could be a resolution to Thiago Alcantara’s rumored contract extension. According to the German outlet, the 29-year-old Spaniard has spent the recent weeks in deep discussions with his wife on whether or not the family should remain with Bayern Munich or head back to Spain for what could be the last big contract of the midfielder’s career.

After a flurry of activity and anticipation just over a month ago regarding a possible extension, the talks went silent — at least to the public. Now it appears that Thiago is ready to make a decision and Bild thinks it will be an extended stay with the Bavarians as he has told the team that he is “leaning toward staying.”

If you were wondering about the accuracy of the report, you might feel better knowing that is has already been “flexed” by Sport Bild insider Christian Falk:

If true, Thiago would be a key cog in the midfield group for the immediate future with Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. Unfortunately for Thiago and Bayern alike, the star midfielder has been battling an injury of late.

Thiago is due to miss tomorrow’s showdown with Fortuna Dusseldorf due to ongoing adductor issues, but coach Hansi Fick is hopeful that he will have his midfield maestro back in the fold soon enough.

“I hope that Thiago is back soon,” Flick said. “You always have to wait and see, however, how the muscles react to the load. He’s not ready yet. It’ll take some time.”
