Manchester United has legitimate interest in Bayern Munich’s Corentin Tolisso; Werner has virtual meeting with Klopp

Manchester United might be planning on a move to bolster its midfield this summer and Bayern Munich’s Corentin Tolisso could be the primary target.

According to Sport Bild chief Christian Falk, Manchester United indeed had real interest in hard-luck Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso during the winter transfer window. Tolisso, who is still just 25 years old, has had an unbelievably tough battle with his health over the past two seasons but still has tantalizing potential.

As noted just over a week ago in the “Daily Schmankerl,” the Red Devils did not end their pursuit after failing to secure a winter move, despite another unfortunate injury for the France international.

Tolisso’s recent ankle woes are expected to keep him out for up-to-three months, but if Manchester United has serious interest, that ailment might not preclude the English side from making a bid on the player this summer.

Clearly, the last two seasons have not gone to plan for Tolisso. Early in the 2018/19 season, Tolisso suffered a devastating knee injury and has had a very difficult time in getting back to his old form. Even when on the field this season, Tolisso has not displayed his typical fearless and aggressive style that had many Bayern Munich fans excited for the future.

Tolisso was, however, inching closer toward looking like himself once again until a ligament injury to his ankle once again derailed his efforts. With Thomas Muller, Joshua Kimmich, Thiago Alcantara, and Leon Goretzka already ahead of him on the depth chart and veteran Javi Martinez and upstart Michael Cuisance also well-position to fight for playing time, Tolisso could be viewed as a luxury asset on the current roster. In addition, Bayern Munich is also expected to have Adrian Fein back in tow this summer after a loan stint with Hamburger SV.

The competition in the midfield group for playing time heading into the 2020/21 season could be quite fierce.

Interestingly, Falk was not done there, however. The German journalist also confirmed a report that RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has already had a “virtual” discussion with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp regarding a potential move.

Depending on what — and who — you believe, Werner either is still is a target for Bayern Munich or has become a pandemic-related transfer casualty. Regardless, a move to Liverpool for the speedy scoring machine could make Klopp’s attack even more potent.

For a “farmers league,” the Bundesliga sure has done a good job of honing some top-level talent that has those ever-so-powerful English clubs are eagerly looking to poach.
