While dates have been established for the return of the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga by the DFL, the DFB is still working on figuring out when it’s time for Germany’s other sporting competitions to return. Kicker is reporting that they’re targeting a Final in Berlin on July 4.
First, however, the two semifinals must be played. Originally scheduled for April 21-22, the expected dates for those two matches is Tuesday June 9 and Wednesday June 10. Bayern Munich will host Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Saarbrücken will host Bayer Leverkusen. It hasn’t yet been determined if those games will be played in the evening or late afternoon, as requested by the police unions.
Still, there are more questions than answers at this point. Saarbrücken are currently leading the Regionalliga Südwest; however, at this time, it’s not known whether or not the Regionalliga will even return to finish the season. While the DFB have indicated that they would cover COVID-19 testing for Saarbrücken pending a return to regular training, just how big of a competitive disadvantage will they be facing by not playing a match for nearly three and a half months before such a big game?
