FC Bayern Munich continues to scout young talent from all across Europe, even during the current lockdown. This time it is the young Scottish defender, Aaron Hickey. A report from the Daily Record says that Bayern have watched strings of film on him in recent weeks.
The 17-year-old Hickey plays mostly left-back for Heart of Midlothian — or Hearts — in the Scottish Premiership. He can however play at center or right-back as well. He started in the Hearts academy before transferring to Celtic’s academy where he played for one year before transferring back to Hearts.
After returning to his original academy, Hickey has made his way from the youth system into the first team, where he has been a fixture in the starting lineup since the end of last season. He has played in 30 games across competitions this season, and recorded one goal and one assist.
This is not the first time that Bayern have looked to Scotland for young talent. Recently, Bayern signed Celtic’s Liam Morrison, who would likely be seen as a similar project. Coincidentally, Celtic also has eyes on bringing Hickey back to Celtic. Hickey — whose contract is about to expire, and is unlikely to renew with Hearts — has also had interest from Manchester City in the past.
