Report: Timo Werner will NOT join Bayern Munich this summer, Liverpool still an option

This might put discussions about how Werner fits at Bayern to bed.

According to a report by Bild, it looks like Bayern Munich have made the decision to sign Leroy Sané over Timo Werner. The RB Leipzig striker has been tipped for a move to Bavaria for several years now, but Liverpool may be his most likely destination at the moment. Reds coach Jurgen Klopp is said to be a fan of the 24-year-old.

Here’s the tweet by Christian Falk confirming the news:

This could mean a great deal for Bayern’s upcoming summer transfer window, whenever that ends up happening. Timo vs Sané was a growing debate in the community — it was thought that there was an ongoing power struggle between Hasan Salihamidzic (who prefers Sané) and Hansi Flick (who prefers Werner) over the final acquisition. All this seems to have been put to bed now, especially with the news that Flick personally called Sané and explained his plan to him in a 30-minute long phone call.

Thomas Muller might be one of the players seeing a benefit from the news, since there will be one less potential competitor for his position, with Werner out of the picture. Bayern probably doesn’t want a third James Rodriguez situation in three years on their hands. Now, what remains to be seen is whether Werner ends up going to England or staying in Germany. Hopefully, for the sake of the league, he stays and keeps things interesting.
