Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick recently spoke with the club’s top transfer target Leroy Sané over the phone for a half an hour. The inference from their conversation is that Flick now supports the club’s pursuit of the Manchester City winger (Sport Bild via Transfermarkt).
That corroborates a report from three weeks ago that Flick and Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic had resolved their differences regarding the club’s transfer targets. Flick was reportedly skeptical of Sané’s character and favored signing RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, whereas Salihamidzic backed Sané and had already passed on Werner the season before.
Salihamidzic is reportedly optimistic that he can sign Sané whenever the summer transfer window opens. He is presumably the “international star” that Salihamidzic meant in his latest remarks about Bayern’s transfer goals, although Bayern’s supervisory board is wary after the club signed an injured Lucas Hernandez for a record €80 million only for him to continue to struggle with injuries this season.
On another note, Salihamidzic seems utterly (perhaps even amusingly) unconcerned about potential accusations of “tapping up” Sané. We all remember when Chelsea blew its collective top and threatened to report Bayern to FIFA over a comment about the club’s interest in Callum Hudson-Odoi.
