It’s jersey week at SB Nation! Have you ever bought a Bayern Munich kit with a player name on it, only for that player to leave you despondent when he transfers away? If you’re a James Rodriguez fan, then the answer is almost certainly yes. For the rest of you, it’s a resounding “maybe.”

With an authentic replica costing about 80 euros in a fan shop, the risk of wasting your hard-earned cash on the wrong player is palpable. Fear not! We here at BFW have compiled a shortlist of players who can justify your extravagant expenditure. In the ever-changing landscape of professional football, these five players are the “safe bets,” the ones who will give you your money’s worth.

Without further ado, here are the top five players to put on the back of your Bayern Munich jersey:

#1: Thomas Müller

Even if the article pic didn’t clue you in, you should’ve seen this coming. Is there any safer buy than a Thomas Muller jersey? The man is practically Bayern Munich personified at this point, and with his recent contract extension, he is guaranteed to stay at the club for another three years. There’s a very good chance Muller will retire as a true “one-club man” — one of the few left in modern day football — so his jersey is the first one any true fan should buy.

#2: Joshua Kimmich

If you’re looking for a buy that will age really well, look no further than Joshua Kimmich. Kimmich is tipped to be the future captain of Bayern and Germany, and he’s one of the few players the bosses will never let go. He’s already considered the leader of the next generation of players, and he will be the guy who is the face of the club when this current golden era of players move into retirement.

In terms of a long-term outlook, there isn’t a better player to invest in.

#3: Robert Lewandowski

Now this one is a great choice if you want a Bayern jersey. Wearing it is pure bragging rights — you’re telling those Barcelona and Real Madrid plebs that “we have the best striker in the world and you don’t.” The only proper way to flex is with a Lewandowski jersey. Make sure to try out some of his celebrations when you buy one.

#4: Serge Gnabry

This one is especially recommended if you have any Arsenal or Chelsea fans as friends. Cement your dominance in your friends’ group by putting Gnabry’s name on your jersey. One of the designated heirs to Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, and also the main front man for the next generation of the German national team, Gnabry is a great choice for any Bayern fan. While his current deal expires in 2023, rest assured that he’s not going anywhere.

#5: Alphonso Davies

If you’re Canadian, you already have this jersey. This recommendation isn’t for you. This is for anyone else who hasn’t hopped on the Davies bandwagon yet. If you didn’t buy one of his kits when he pulverized Chelsea into a fine paste, then surely you bought one when he signed his extension to 2025? No? Well if the coronavirus is your excuse, then that’s fair. But you’re expected to buy one if when things get back to normal. No ifs or buts.
