Does Bayern Munich really want to sign Ferran Torres? (Updated)

The young Spaniard has been linked with clubs across Europe — but are the German giants really interested?

There’s a new hot property in town, and everyone’s being linked with him. 20-year-old Ferran Torres recently made headlines in Germany after it was revealed that Bayern Munich had put in a large offer for the youngster. The winger, who plies his trade for Valencia CF, has been linked with several big clubs around Europe — including the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United. With the transfer of Leroy Sane still in doubt, Torres looked like a suitable plan B for the Bavarians.

However, the report made by Golsmedia has been greeted with some suspicion by the media in Germany. According to Spox, there is no truth to the rumor that Bayern have made a bid for Ferran Torres. Sources in Munich claim that no offer has been made, and the club has made no contact with the player’s entourage.

This is not to say that Bayern Munich are completely uninterested in the Spaniard. Chief scout Marco Neppe watched Torres multiple times last year, including at the European U-19 championships where Spain were crowned winners. However, Bayern’s interest has cooled in recent months, and Leroy Sane is still the club’s #1 priority on the wing.

This is not to say that Torres has no suitors. Borussia Dortmund are said to have made an offer to the player’s entourage. They’re not the only ones — big clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus are interested. Manchester United too. However, looking at all the reports associated with Torres, you get the feeling that there’s nothing concrete behind the scenes. It’s a lot like how Nicolas Pepe’s transfer went down last year. One moment, he’s the hottest property on the planet, seemingly wanted by every big club. The next minute, he transfers to Arsenal.

We’ll keep you informed if anything develops, but for now, it’s safe to say there’s no concrete interest from Bayern Munich in Ferran Torres. Should there be? Does he justify the hype? You decide.
