There have been so many moving parts to the goalkeeping situation at Bayern Munich in recent weeks as Manuel Neuer negotiates a new contract with the club’s front office. Conflicting opinions between both parties have caused a great deal of speculation that Neuer might decide to leave if his demands aren’t met by the club.
In a new report by kicker, however, Hansi Flick has said that there’s a clear plan moving forward. He said that all keepers will be shown respect and appreciation next season, even though there’s been backlash from Neuer’s camp at the signing of Alexander Nübel from Schalke and the rumor of a guaranteed number of matches within his contract.
Although Flick does not always see eye to eye with sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, he is excited for the arrival of Nübel this summer, a move in which Salihamidizc played an integral role in facilitating. Flick feels that Nübel has a perfect opportunity to grow and develop behind Neuer and alongside Sven Ulreich at Bayern:
Alexander Nübel will have the same trust and the same appreciation as all the other goalkeepers and players on our team receive. We want to develop him further, but it is also clear that at FC Bayern, the principle of performance counts. And at the moment, Sven Ulreich is doing his thing really well.
Still, even with his excitement for the development of Nübel, Flick maintains that Neuer is Bayern’s number one keeper and that Nübel is fully aware of this:
Manuel Neuer is clearly our number 1, that won’t change in the upcoming season. Alexander Nübel knows that.
Flick’s remarks seemingly put to rest the strife between Neuer, his agent Thomas Kroth, and Bayern’s front office. Kroth had given an interview where he said he and Neuer were dissatisfied with details regarding Neuer’s contract negotiations being leaked from within the club; details that weren’t true. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge even gave a statement earlier today, re-iterating the idea that Bayern is more than happy with both Neuer and Nübel, and that there’s no reason to suspect otherwise.
