Melanie Leupolz, the 25-year-old Bayern Munich Frauen captain and midfielder has signed a pre-contract agreement to join Chelsea FC Women for the 2020/21 campaign. Her new contract will see her in London for at least three seasons, where she will have the chance to play alongside Aussie world-class striker Sam Kerr. The German centre-mid said, “It’s a really big move, it’s my first move to another country and I’m really looking forward to it.”

During her time in Munich, Leupolz captained Bayern for two years, won two Bundesliga titles, a European Champions, and an Olympic Gold medal on the international stage — in an already 7 (!) year international career. For the Frauen this season, she has scored five goals in fourteen Bundesliga games, out of 22 appearances this season in all competitions. It’s also worth noting that she is much loved among Bayern fans worldwide.

All of us here at BFW are very sad to see Melanie go, but we wish her the best and we hope her illustrious career will continue for many years to come. All the best!
