Bavarian FIFA Works - Dominance Over Hertha

So, after the poll results yesterday, you determined that you wanted me to play every game of our Bayern Munich FIFA simulation.

Today, I did two games back to back and realized there was a massive drop in numbers, so from now on, only one game per day. Tomorrow, I won’t do a livestream, but you can go watch the second game on Twitch now. If you don’t, I’ll post the game in another blog post.

Meanwhile, let’s recap the game against Hertha!

Bayern vs Hertha Berlin - BuLi MD1

We chose to fool around with the lineup only slightly. After Pavard’s horrible last performance, I decided to give him a second chance to see if he could do something here.

Lineup: 4-2-3-1

Lewandowski

Sané - Muller - Coman

Thiago - Kimmich

Alaba - Hernandez - Upamecano - Pavard

Neuer

This was the Bayern Munich debut for Dayot Upamecano.

9’ GOAL from Thomas Müller (FCB 1:0 HB)

Great buildup through the wings led to a pass from Sané to Lewy at the top of the box. Müller recognized some open space and took a lovely through ball from RL9 to put it past the keeper to open the scorebook.

15’ GOAL from Thomas Müller (FCB 2:0 HB)

This was almost the same goal. Lewy sends Müller to the left side this time with wide open spaces in front of him. He takes a crack at the net and puts one just past the near post. That was most of the action up until halftime

60’ Substitutions: 1) Leon Goretzka for Benjamin Pavard 2) Alphonso Davies for David Alaba

Time for Phonzie to start his season off right. Throughout this game he made a number of really good recovery runs and just sprinted up the field leaving the defenders in dust.

Pavard had a similarly bad game this time around, so once again, Kimmich slotted over to RB and Goretzka came on for Benjamin.

81’ Substitution: Timo Werner for Thomas Muller

In one of my finest troll jobs ever, I subbed on Timo for Chuck Smith, only to have him never touch the ball.

And that was the game!

Match Awards

Jersey Swap - Alessandro Florenzi

Hertha’s new signing performed very well on the wings for Die Alte Dame in his debut. He was great shutting down our wingers at times and even helped break forward on the counter attack.

Tip of the Cap - Dayot Upamecano

A great debut for the 20 year old French international. Upamecano was consistent with his clearances, broke down attacking chances, and was confident distributing the ball. Overall, a good performance.

Golf Clap - Thiago Alcantara

He is slowly becoming this teams Most Valuable Player, and I mean that in the sense of his value. We’ve all known Thiago to be one of the best distributors of the ball in the game, but he’s really showing his stripes in this simulation. His poise has been phenomenal and his vision contributed to scoring chances left and right this game.

Standing Ovation - Robert Lewandowski

No goals to his name, but two assists will show that he belongs on this list. A great comeback performance from him after he was shut down by the Dortmund defense. That Müller-Lewy connection may just be as deadly as the Müller-Werner connection.

Meister of the Match - Thomas Müller

Yet again, the Ramdeuter proved his value and class. Two goals in quick succession established the tone of this game from the outset, and we all have Tommy Boy to thank. He’s been the best player on the pitch most times this season, so he belongs here again.

No polls or shocking moments today, but polls return tomorrow. See you then!
