Per Sport Bild, Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez along with the versatile Corentin Tolisso are candidates to be sold at the end of the season by Bayern Munich.
This news doesn’t come a surprise. The two veterans have long been rumoured to leave due to their age and decline in their game. Since each one has only a year left on their contract, and the club is seeking newer options as their replacements for the next season — Dayot Upamecano, Adrian Fein — it would be a wise move to sell them this summer.
Rather than a decline in form or abilities, Tolisso’s cause for departure is primarily attached to his rank in the pecking order of Bayern's stacked midfield. While intermittent injuries have prevented Tolisso from building any rhythm, silly mistakes when given the rare start haven’t helped his case very much. Considering the current form of Thiago and Joshua Kimmich, with Leon Goretzka close behind, Tolisso will find minutes hard to come by bar any injuries which have surprisingly spared the Bayern midfield this season.
Other than the obvious boost to funds for the #BavarianMayhem2020, the sale of Tolisso would also make room for Michael Cuisance and academy players such as Sarpreet Singh, Oliver Batista-Meier and loanee Adrian Fein, who is set to return to Munich next season.
Having said that, Tolisso is an excellent depth piece whose versatility in midfield will be hard to replace. Whether the Bayern brass would go ahead with his sale or choose to accommodate him better than they currently are is to be seen.
