So much of Bayern Munich’s transfer efforts has been focused on the presumed arrival of Manchester City’s Leroy Sané and (potentially) Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz that other targets have been overshadowed.
Per a new report by kicker, it was suggested that Hansi Flick wanted to bring in both Emre Can and Domilson “Dodo” Cordeiro dos Santos from Shakhtar Donetsk. Borussia Dortmund wound up beating Bayern to Can’s signature as the midfielder transferred from Juventus for approximately €25 million, while Dodo stayed put with Shakhtar Donetsk. Both players might have given Bayern more depth in areas where they needed it, Can as a defensive midfielder and Dodo as a right-back.

Flick also wanted Bayern to sign RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner last summer. He did not have enough influence on the club leadership at the time, however, since he was only Niko Kovac’s assistant. Werner thus renewed his contract with Die Roten Bullen at the beginning of this season and has enjoyed a successful campaign, having scored 21 Bundesliga goals already. Bayern could in theory still go after Werner, but the German striker has been heavily linked with a move to Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool in recent weeks.
