Bayern Munich just dropped stunning news: Robert Lewandowski has suffered a knee injury and will require approximately four weeks before he can return to health (FCBayern.com). The club’s official statement reads, in translation:
At FC Bayern’s 3-0 over Chelsea FC yesterday, Robert Lewandowski suffered a fracture of the tibia in his left knee joint. This was the finding of a thorough examination by Bayern doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt upon his return from London on Wednesday today. After immobilization in a plaster cast for ten days, rehabilitation training will commence. He will be out in total for approximately four weeks.
This is devastating news for Bayern Munich, since four weeks time will mean that Lewandowski will miss the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Chelsea, not to mention quarterfinal match of the DFB-Pokal against Schalke on March 3, and three or more Bundesliga matches, as Bayern seeks to built its lead.
Coach Hansi Flick’s job just got harder.
