A report from Bild indicates that Bayern Munich has hired Florian Zahn away from Chelsea of the Premier League. The move reportedly occurred in January without much fanfare. It comes at a curious time — right before Bayern’s clash with Chelsea in the Champions League.

Zahn is from Germany and had worked for Chelsea for four and a half years. He was in charge of their scouting in Central and Eastern Europe during his time there. Previously, he also worked with the youth teams at 1. FC Kaiserslautern. In light of his experience, Zahn should know the area pretty well.

At Bayern, Zahn will work with Sporting Director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidzic and Head Scout Marco Neppe. He will be tasked with helping young player transition from the U16/U17 levels all the way to the pros. His focus will be on finding the top talents that can be developed in such a way, so that they ideally can make it all the way to the first team.
