Robert Lewandowski will not be on the squad when Bayern Munich hosts Lokomotiv Moscow to close out the Champions League group stage on Wednesday. According to Bild, following a report from Onet Sport, the star striker will miss the game as he recovers from a minor injury he suffered in Bayern’s 3-3 draw against RB Leipzig over the weekend.
Bild confirmed the story, citing their own information. Hansi Flick is unwilling to take any risks with Lewandowski, who is expected to be fit for the final three Bundesliga matches of the year, against Union Berlin, VfL Wolfsburg, and Bayer Leverkusen.
Lewandowski has made four appearances in the Champions League so far, scoring three goals. His understudy, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will presumably start on Thursday against Lokomotiv. Choupo-Moting led the attack in Bayern’s 1-1 draw away with Atletico Madrid, but had just a single clear chance to score playing against Atletico’s starters alongside a team of youth players. He will undoubtedly be eager to make amends with better luck against Moscow.
