It has been quite a stretch for Bayern Munich youth goalkeeper Lukas Schneller. The 19-year-old made his 3. Liga debut with Bayern Munich II in a 2-0 loss to Hansa Rostock before traveling with the senior-team for its recent Champions League match against Atletico Madrid
Schneller can add one more accomplishment to his recent milestones as he has extended his contract through the 2022 season per FCBayern.com.
“Lukas is a very ambitious young goalkeeper, who has developed very well recently. He celebrated a very decent debut in Rostock and we are delighted that he will take the next steps here at FC Bayern,” campus director Jochen Sauer.
Schneller is a Munich native, who has been working his way through the club’s youth system since 2012. Clearly, the 19-year-old is happy to continue his “player pathway” with the Bavarians.
“The last few days have been really special for me and very motivating. I will now continue to work hard on myself every day so that there are many more experiences like this,” said Schneller.
Schneller’s place on the organizational depth chart is currently as the back-up to Ron-Thorben Hoffman with Bayern Munich II. With Christian Früchtl on loan at FC Nürnberg, Schneller should be able to continue to pick up playing time on rest days for Hoffmann, who has been stellar this season.
