Bayern Munich pulled out a 1-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen to remain perfect in the Frauen Bundesliga and extend their lead at the top of the table. The match was make-up game following the previous postponement due to positive COVID-19 tests in the Leverkusen side.

Despite their numerous chances on the day, Bayern were only able to snag one goal, mostly due to missing the final pass and/or poor finishing. The goal, however, was great instinctual work between Sydney Lohmann and Klara Bühl with the forward finishing off the chance to give Bayern the 1-0 lead.

“We knew what was coming and wanted to counter it. We succeeded and are happy about the 3 points,” Bühl said. “We could’ve closed the game earlier today, but the final pass was often missing or the finishing was too inaccurate.”

Bayern XI: Benkarth - Ilestedt, Hegering, Wenninger, Glas - Zadrazil, Magull - Bühl, Lohmann, Beerensteyn (87. Laudehr) - Schüller (73. Dallmann)

The win moves Bayern to 30 points and 5 points clear of Wolfsburg at the top of the table. It’s a remarkable and, quite frankly, unexpected start to the campaign for Bayern; however, the ladies have earned every point to kick off the campaign. With a +30 goal differential (31 scored, 1 conceded), the Bavarians are for real.

There are two Frauen Bundesliga games remaining for Bayern in 2020 against Eintracht Frankfurt (December 13) and SC Sand (December 20).

Champions League!

The Bavarians also have the Round of 32 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League to contest before the winter break. On December 10, Bayern will travel to Ajax for the first match with the return leg at the Bayern Campus taking place a week later on December 16. GREAT NEWS FOR BAYERN FANS! The club plans on streaming both legs against Ajax on the club’s website, YouTube channel, and Facebook channel.

DFB Pokal!

Several games in the DFB Pokal Round of 16 took place this weekend. Bayern’s Round of 16 match hasn’t been scheduled at this time, as they don’t have an opponent yet! The Bavarians await the winner of TV Jahn Delmenhorst and Walddörfer SV who saw their previously scheduled match postponed due to excess COVID-19 positive tests.
