Bayern Munich has had one of the most intense schedules during the 2020/2021 season. The regular two games a week schedule has, arguably, caused injuries and overall squad fatigue. Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich, Lucas Hernandez, and Corentin Tolisso all missed the important game against RB Leipzig due to injuries.
In the post-match interview, Hansi Flick confirmed that the reason both Javi Martinez and Jerome Boateng were subbed off was due to injury problems. Javi Martinez, who suffered a muscle injury, was substituted in the 25th minute and was replaced by Jamal Musiala. Jerome Boateng, who Flick mentions also suffered from muscular problems, almost lasted the full game but was taken out in the 84th minute for Chris Richards.
Both veterans have been rumored to leave the club but were today starting due to Bayern’s normal starters being unable to play. Let’s hope it is not too serious, as both players still have a role to play for Hansi Flick’s Bayern.
