Bayern Munich began it preparation for Mainz 05 with some coronavirus testing and cyber-training. Today, however, the boys finally got back on the pitch.
Unfortunately, the Bavarians were a little shorthanded.
Per Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch, Kingsley Coman participated in individual training as a precaution, while Tanguy Nianzou was still our nursing an injury:
Vorsichtsmaßnahme bei Kingsley #Coman zum Trainingsauftakt: Nur individuelles Lauftraining nach seiner Zerrung im Spiel gegen Leverkusen. Einsatz am Sonntag gg. Mainz damit noch offen. Sonst alle Spieler fit und dabei - Ausnahme: der langzeitverletzte Tanguy #Nianzou. #FCBayern https://t.co/VnVI6Qh54x

At the start of training: Kingsley #Coman only performed individual running training as a precaution after his strain in the game against Leverkusen. His availability on Sunday against Mainz is still open. Otherwise all players fit and there — exception: the long-term injured Tanguy #Nianzou.#FCBayern
Bild, however, had a more in depth report stating that Niklas Süle and Jamal Musiala were not present at the session. Süle was absent to be with his partner, Melissa, who was giving birth to the couple’s first child. There was no further explanation on Musiala’s absence.
Bild also provided minor updates on Leon Goretzka, Javi Martinez, and Joshua Kimmich:
Coach Hansi Flick also had reason to be happy: After several problem weeks, things are looking really good in the central midfield for the start of 2021. Javi Martinez (32) was fully back after his thigh injury. Leon Goretzka (25) also got involved after muscular problems shortly before Christmas. And Joshua Kimmich should now be fully ready for the next game after his short comeback in Leverkusen.
All-in-all, that is about as good as an injury report can get for Bayern Munich.
Update 4:08PM EST
Thanks to an astute reader who saw a social media post from Jamal Musiala, we at least know Musiala was at the training session today.
But Musiala is here pic.twitter.com/DBcnjlGAbD

Bild’s exact words from its report was as follows:
Niklas Süle (25) and Jamal Musiala (17) were not present at the first training session.
Perhaps Bild missed Musiala altogether or maybe he trained alone. Or maybe he drove Süle to the hospital (just kidding). It’s a mystery!
